City of Columbus — Columbus Public Health
Formerly known as the Old Blind School, this property with historical significance was chosen by Columbus Public Health as the site of its new facility where it could consolidate a number of its offices at one location and have room for anticipated growth.
The nine-acre park-like setting was developed with special historical consideration for the three main buildings – the original U-shaped 174,000 ft² building and two 22,000 ft² dormitories.
The design-build venture brought together a team that included Dynamix as the M/E/P firm to provide designs for all new HVAC, including new chiller and boiler plants; electrical service featuring rerouted primary electrical power to serve facility with new secondary switchgear, two main distribution sections with high voltage (480V/277V) stepdowns to 208V/120V, and branch panels at both 480V and 208V; lighting, technology, plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm.
The facility includes TB and other labs as well as a number of health department clinics. The renovated facility now has 225,000 ft² of space.
The project also includes a multilevel parking structure. Dynamix provided power, lighting, security and drainage design.
